Here are a few examples of the work we do
Motor Cycle Accident
A female motorcyclist was injured after a lorry collided with her bike. She suffered serious multiple injuries and had to spend a considerable amount of time with her leg immobilised in a type of external fixation known as a llizarov frame which fortunately saved her leg from being amputated. She needed therapeutic treatment to help her get over the trauma of the accident and specialist physiotherapy treatment. Heather Millgate took on the claim from another firm of solicitors part way through the proceedings, and settled the case within 18 months for just under £1 million.
Accident at Work – Slip
Caroline instructed Heather Millgate to investigate a claim against her employee for negligence after she slipped at work causing an injury to her back. The injury eventually resolved after successful treatment and Caroline returned to work. Heather successfully argued that the employer was liable and obtained direct funding from them to pay for Caroline’s treatment. Heather subsequently negotiated Caroline’s continued employment with the employer as part of the settlement agreement.
Road Traffic Accident involving a horse
Heather Millgate successfully recovered damages for the passenger of a car after a horse collided with the vehicle in which he was travelling. Although liability was not fully accepted, Heather obtained in excess of £20,000 for the passenger who suffered facial injuries requiring some remedial dental work.
Amputation of fingers
Heather Millgate obtained damages of around £20,000 for a man whose fingers were severed when he went about his daily routine of cleaning his employer’s mincing machine. The case involved the need for a careful and precise analysis of the employer’s working practices and procedures before liability could be established.
